About
Tutor James Simpson
Ekphrastic writing may be simply described as writing inspired by works of art. Participants will first reference and discuss their response to some well-known works before responding individually in writing to paintings by the exhibition artists. The session will include group discussion, provide an opportunity to write, and offer a relaxed and imaginative space for sharing. No previous experience of ekphrastic writing is necessary.
James Simpson is past runner up in the Francis McManus Short Story Competition and a winning Irish Novel Fair Finalist. He has authored Smokes and Birds, an Irish Short Story Collection, and most recently a Derry based novel, True Colours (Colmcille Press). Broadcast on RTE and Radio Ulster James completed an M A in Creative Writing at Queen’s in 2019.
