A Brush with Nature
TRADITIONAL CHINESE PAINTING WORKSHOP
Chinese painting is one of the oldest continuous artistic traditions in the world. Traditional Chinese painting uses many of the same techniques as calligraphy, where gesture and control of the brush form part of the artistic method.
Michael Rong-Gen Yin practises the two main techniques of Chinese painting – Gongbi, where intricate brushstrokes form detailed coloured landscapes, which can include narrative themes and Shui-mo, which is much looser using bold brushstrokes and watercolour wash.
Following his successful inaugural exhibition of Chinese watercolour paintings last year, artist Rong-Gin Yin is exhibiting his new collection in four museums across Northern Ireland in 2019. To coincide with his exhibition, there will be workshops where you will learn from observing his demonstrations in traditional and contemporary styles. You will enjoy producing your own Chinese paintings in ink and Chinese water-colours. All materials are provided.
